For the past 17 years, The Festival of New Trumpet Music in New York City has presented an ambitious annual program of concerts and educational events celebrating both emerging artists and established masters on the trumpet. FONT is committed to the support of new music by a diverse community of trumpet and brass players, and the presentation of their work to the public. The Festival aims to promote opportunity, encourage diversity, and enable community for and among trumpet players and those with whom they work.
FONT co-director Stephanie Richards became a faculty member of the University of California San Diego Department of Music in 2017. Last year, she and Dan Atkinson, a Grammy-nominated jazz producer and artistic director for UC San Diego’s Downtown Center, put together the first-ever West Coast edition of FONT, FONT West. Now in its second year, the week-long festival involves the collaboration of leading San Diego arts organizations including the Digital Gym Cinema, The Casbah, UC San Diego Department of Music, Panama 66, The Loft, The Whistle Stop and Quartyard. Musical artists include Grammy Award winning trumpeter Curtis Taylor, Gilbert Castellanos, La Covacha Big Band, Hugh Ragin and more!
